Sunrise

February 23, 2018

I’ve been working on this for a while now and I’m excited to share it. A lot of my music has intentionally been pretty loose with no clear direction. I’m just trying to be open to inspiration from random instrument patches or keyboard parts I play, and then seeing where that takes me. With this piece though I had a rough image of a sunrise over a green pasture, and I tried my best to see it manifested.

The way that the earth is still and quiet before dawn. I used to go camping a lot with my parents and I always enjoyed these peaceful early moments of the day. There was a sense of expectation hanging in the still air. It’s as if the world was waiting to wake up. As a kid I probably did not appreciate these moments as much as I would now, but the memories are still vivid enough for me to do some appreciation in retrospect.

As the sun began to crest the horizon, life began to stir. The grass and bushes would start to sparkle as the sun reflected off the morning dew. Bird calls would start to fill the air and the sky would light up. Everything, including us, would wake up and start moving, getting into the tasks of the day. The moments of stillness before the hustle and bustle takes over is a very special moment.

I’m a bit of a sucker for nature scenes. Maybe I’ll attempt more sometime?
